I’m Lynne, I’m 49, and I started to lose my hearing about 6 years ago. I had the flu and I didn’t realise until I recovered that I couldn’t hear in my right ear very well. Several years later, my hearing tests showed that my left ear hearing level had decreased to the same level as the right ear. As a result, I need hearing aids in both ears.

Having hearing aids took a bit of coming to terms with as I felt awkward, but that soon passed and I realised another problem was how much I’d isolated myself.

In May of this year I had another episode of sudden hearing loss. This was more scary as I woke up and could hardly hear anything. Being in lockdown and having to attend A&E on my own was difficult. I still need further tests with ENT and Audiology. Being part of this study has given me hope that others can be helped.
